Ruth Foster has taken over at the Rutland Health and Beauty Clinic in Market Street, Oakham.
She qualified 20 years ago and after taking time out to start a family she is now looking for a new challenge.
Ruth, 37, said: "Now my two children are at school I've got more time to commit to a business again and I'm really looking forward to it."
She has worked in Oakham since 1995 and ran her own business, Hammonds Hair and Beauty, in High Street for six years.
She now lives in Long Clawson near Melton Mowbray with husband Chris and daughters Polly, six, and Alice, four.
Former business owner Vicki Leeton will continue working at the salon until Christmas before moving on.
Ruth said: "The business has been established since 1981 and I hope to continue the good service and high quality it is known for.
"I will also be introducing some new products and treatments."
Staff at Furleys, in Oakham, will be providing new art work for the salon each month to give customers something to look at during their treatment.
