Veterinary nurse scoops counselling honour

A VETERINARY nurse has picked up an award.
Lydia Dow-nes, who works at Burghley Veterinary Cen-tre in St Leon-ards Street, Stamford, was one of six nurses awarded the pet health counsellor of the month award by the British Small Animal Veterinary Association at a galal dinner in Birmingham.
The pet health counsellor programme is run by pet food manufacturer Royal Canin to encouraging nurses to continue their professional development
A qualified veterinary nurse, Lydia convinced her bosses that she and her fellow nurses needed their own consulting room to run a range of services including pre-vaccination checks for puppies and kittens, nutritional advice and weight management clinics.
Lydia, who missed out on the top award of pet health counsellor of the year, said: "I had a great night out at the Royal Canin gala dinner and have got a lovely certificate which will take pride of place in the surgery."
