Green week at school
YOUNGSTERS spent a week going green at Stamford High School.
The school hosted a green week last month to promote green issues and raise money for the Children's Tropical Forests charity, which is dedicated to the protection, conservation and regeneration of tropical forests.
A tree of pledges encouraged pupils to make a small change in their lifestyle, which they wrote on a leaf to hang on the tree. The library also hosted a book swap and a carbon foot printing session.
The school hosted a green fair, with Fairtrade fashion on sale and there were Fairtrade snacks on sale. A bag compe-tition gave pupils the opportunity to produce an alternative to a carrier bag.
Organiser Mary Cade said: "The success of the week was down to the enthusiasm of girls from Year 7 to Year 13 who helped devise and run the events. We will definitely repeat the week in 2009, and as a result of the interest shown, we hope to run a Fairtrade tuck shop on a regular basis."
