A GREEN group is trying to win over 100 traders as it plans to make carrier bags a thing of the past.
Campaigners backing Make Deeping Green want businesses to give a definite answer to their aims to make The Deepings plastic bag-free and are preparing to ask traders the crunch question: Are you with us?'

The recently-established group wants to de
sign and distribute a re-usable bag to every house and is hoping shopkeepers will support it by charging for biodegradable bags.

It recently held a meeting to discuss the plans but no-one has signed up yet.

Town centre manager Sarah Bailey said: "Everything's going positively but there are 100 traders in The Deepings and we need to communicate more.

"The vast majority have backed our plans and there's going to be a point where we ask every retailer to commit or not – will you or won't you?"

Make Deeping Green says it will now look to liaise with traders to get things moving.

It is also busy raising funds so that it can distribute re-usable bags to the residents of the Deepings and boost support.

To find out more about the group's plans visit its website at www.makedeepinggreen.co.uk.
