Primary school flies the flag for recycling
AN eco-friendly school is flying the flag for recycling.
St Gilbert's School in Stamford has been awarded the eco-flag for the second time by charity Encams, which runs the Keep Britain Tidy campaign.
The flag is awarded to schools across the country who are involved in looking after the environment and teaching children the importance of sustainability. Young eco-warriors encourage fellow pupils to recycle.
Headteacher Claire Thorley said: "There are very few schools that get the flag the second time around and if we get it a third time, we can keep it for ever."
To celebrate the school held a special ceremony. The flag was raised by Canon Neil Russell, who retired last week as chairman of governors after 15 years.
Mrs Thorley said: "Canon Russell will be greatly missed by us all. He has been a great friend to the school."
