If you want to see Father Christmas and his reindeer before Christmas Eve, look out for him in the Sleaford villages this weekend.
Firefighters at Metheringham station are busy bringing Christmas to their local communities in their brand new, home made Santa Sleigh and accompanying reindeer.
The idea came about as the firefighters have always had to use the Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue sleigh for their yearly trips around the villages, and as it is also used by other teams and kept at the base in Lincoln, fitting it in was always difficult.
So the team decided to make their own, and the impressive sleigh not only boasts fully working Christmas lights donated by local buisnesses, but a snow machine and a sound system that Father Christmas himself will bob along to in the sleigh.
The new sleigh made its first visit around Metheringham’s Christmas market recently and also stopped off at Metheringham primary school, where firefighter Paul Stallebrass said went down very well: “The children absolutely loved it and wanted their photo taken next to the sleigh. The sleigh has been very well received so far.”
The sleigh and its journey is also a fundraiser with a collection bucket carried around wherever it goes, with all funds being donated to the FireFighter’s Charity, a cause obviously close to the crew’s hearts.
On the first leg of the sleigh’s route, the crew were touring and collecting in Potterhanworth, Nocton and Dunston and collected an impressive £400 in change.
The sleigh will be continuing it’s route through the communities on Friday, starting off in Martin at 5.30pm at the bottom of the village and working its way through the main street down to Timberland and on to Kirby Green before continuing to Scopwick and Digby, and hoping to finish at the base at RAF Digby.
Next, on Saturday Santa and his sleigh will be touring around Ruskington from 5pm onwards.
Finally on Sunday the crew will be touring their village of Metheringham, starting at the fire station at 4.30pm and making its way down Grange Road, to Londesborough Way and the High Street, Princess Road and along Lincoln Road before ending up back at the fire station.
