Alice Papworth died at Abbey Court Care Home, Bourne, aged 86.
The funeral service took place at Dyke Baptist Chapel, the Rev David Hughes officiating. A reading and eulogy was given by friend of more than 50 years, Alan Schofield.
Born in Darwen, Lancashire, Alice was the second daughter of the late John and Martha Almond and on leaving school she worked in the mills in the Rochdale area.
During the war she was proud to ‘do her bit’ making machine parts on a Capstan lathe. It was in this textile producing area that she met her future husband Frank at the age of 18 and they were married for nearly 63 years. They had three sons, and in 1960 the family moved to Watford.
In 1966 Alice moved with her family to Baston, where she continued to bring up her family. Outside of her duties as a devoted wife and mother (later grandmother and great grandmother) she was a devoted Christian and attended Baston Church.
More recently when she moved to Bourne she worshipped at Morton and Dyke. Besides her religious commitments, Alice helped run Baston over 65s club and meals on wheels. She also served as a governor at Baston Primary School and was a keen member of the village WI. Latterly she joined Nubourne WI and along with her husband, Bourne Garden Club. Another of Alice’s passions was walking her dogs.
She leaves her widower Frank and sons Paul, David and Andrew.
