THE very English experience of visiting gardens and, in some cases enjoying a strawberry cream tea, while raising funds for good causes, is much in evidence this weekend – if somewhat dependent on the weather.
COLLYWESTON ROSEBRIAR

Jenny Harrison's home at 83 Main Road is open on behalf of the National Gardens Scheme and Hearing Dogs for the Deaf on Sunday from 11am-6pm.

Jenny's hearing dog Em will be on hand to greet visitors in this sloping garden
with various areas of interest, including stream and bog garden, alpine and grass beds.

Adm £3, children free. Plant stall.

BARNACK

Walcot Hall gardens at Barnack are open from 2-6pm on Sunday for a summer fete.

There will be plant, produce and craft stalls, children's games, teas and other refreshments. The hall has an arboretum of 20 acres with a lake, follies and rose garden. The event is in aid of the parish church.
Adm £4, under 16s free. No dogs.

MANTON

The village of Manton in Rutland has teas on offer in Tony and Jane Bews's lovely garden on Sunday from 1.30-5.30pm.

The garden has views over the Chater Valley. Enjoy strawberries and cream, cakes and a cup of tea.
Adm £1 with proceeds to village hall roof fund.

GLASTON

The Park House at Glaston in Rutland is open on Sunday from 2-6pm as part of the National Gardens Scheme.

These four acres were once part of the grounds of Glaston Hall. There is a formal rose garden, a lime arbour, a mediaeval fish-pond and rare waterfowl.

Adm £2.50, children free. Teas and plants.

UPPINGHAM

Enjoy a Garden Party at The Orchard, Station Road tomorrow from 2.30-5.30pm in aid of Uppingham Methodist Church relief fund and Uppingham in Bloom.

There will be stalls, games and admission is £3.50, children £1, to include tea.

MEDBOURNE nr Uppingham

Fourteen gardens open Sun noon-5.30pm with a gardening expert, barbecue etc. Adm £3, seniors £2.50, under 13s free.

KNOSSINGTON

Knossington's Country Gardens annual event is on Sunday from 1.30-5pm in aid of the parish church. A hog roast will be at The Fox & Hounds from noon, there will be a variety of gardens plus plant, cake and tombola stalls and teas plus an exhibition in the church. Adm £4, children free.

EASTON WALLED GARDENS

Big Sweet Pea Week starts on Sunday with the gardens open daily from 11am-4pm to celebrate lathyrus odoratus and other cut flowers. The sweet pea is famous for its heady scent and Easton's cutflower garden is currently full of them at their best. There are 45 varieties. Free short talks will be held, visitors can chat to the gardeners, there are indoor displays and posies for sale. The gardens, just off the A1 north of Colsterworth, have a cafe and shop. Adm £4.75, children £1.

OTHER GARDENS

Other gardens open this weekend for the NGS scheme include The Orchards, Old Somerby nr Grantham tonight 5-9pm & Sun 2-5pm, The Coach House, Hereward Street, Lincoln, Sun 11am-5pm and 68 Pennygate, Spalding, Sat & Sun 10am-4pm.

Gardens open next weekend are at Holywell Hall on Friday from 2-6pm, Uppingham on Sunday June 29 – with an eco-themed flower festival in the church all weekend (preview reception Thursday 6pm) – and Thurlby next Sat and Sun.
