Festival and fringe bring fortnight's entertainment

OAKHAM Festival and Uppingham Fringe 2008 are launched on Friday 13th June, bringing two weeks of top entertainment to Rutland.
OAKHAM FESTIVAL


  • Festival reception at Oakham Castle from 7pm with music from Abi Moore. All welcome – free admission.

  • Flower Festival at Methodist Church 9.30am-6pm with lunches & teas.

  • Blue Juice Duo at Nick's Restaurant 7pm – see Music.

  • Opera singer Bridget Hardy performs in Oakham School Chapel 7.30pm (£6).

  • Oudoor Cinema – West Side Story in Oakham Castle grounds 9.30pm (£7).



UPPINGHAM FRINGE


  • Invitation only reception at Uppingham Theatre 6.15pm.

  • Gertrude's Secret by Benedick West, a new play of monologues starring his mother Prunella Scales, along with Jerusha West (aged 14), Natalie Cassidy, Sion Tudor Owen etc, Uppingham Theatre 7.30pm (£17.50).



SATURDAY 14

OAKHAM


  • Street Theatre Extravaganza, Mill Street 10am-6pm.

  • Flower Festival, Methodist Church 9.30am-6pm (& Sun). Also The Mystic Harmony – music & narration from Richard Adams 7.30pm £3.

  • The Westenders, West End singers with songs from the shows, Oakham Castle grounds 8pm – take a picnic (£17).



UPPINGHAM


  • Eliza Carthy, Goldmark Gallery – see Music.

  • A Serenade Of Song, Lyddington Church – see Music.

  • Gertrude's Secret, Uppingham Theatre 7.30pm.



SUNDAY 15

OAKHAM


  • Battle of the Bands, Castle grounds noon-4pm.

  • Rutland Sinfonia Prom, castle grounds 6.30pm (£10).

  • Stan Stanley comedy night, Merry Monk 8pm free.

  • The Italian Job – street festival.

  • Needle In A Haystack, Morcott Youth Theatre at Oakham Castle 7.30pm (£5).

  • Alison Stephens with The Miraculous Mandolin, Uppingham Theatre 7.30pm (£8.50/£5).



TUESDAY 17

OAKHAM


  • Dirty Beasts 360 Concert for children, Oakham School Chapel 1.30pm (£2); writer Sophie Hannah, Oakham Castle 7.30pm (£3/£2); Ensemble 360 Concert, Oakham School Chapel 7.30pm (£17).



UPPINGHAM


  • Piano duo Marco Fatichenti & Mariangela Vacatello, Uppingham School 7.30pm (£10/£5).



WEDNESDAY 18

OAKHAM


  • Fraser Graham with piano masterworks, All Saints Church 7.30pm (£7.50); Paul Leegan & The Legends, The Wheatsheaf 7.30pm (£17.50 to include food).



UPPINGHAM


  • Captain Corelli's Mandolin, adapted by Mike Maran, Uppingham Theatre 7.30pm (£10/£8).



THURSDAY 19

OAKHAM


  • Poetry at The Castle with Andre Mangeot 7.30pm £5; Riding Hard, band at The Merry Monk £2.



UPPINGHAM


  • Uppingham Choral Society with young musicians, Parish Church 7.30pm (£5); Samuel's Head On My Table from The Boy In The Bubble Performances, Falcon Hotel 7.30pm (£5).
