TUESDAY TO THURDAY, OCTOBER 7 TO 10 - A CAST of Oundle School sixthformers will present the world premiere of William Kingston's new play Room 40 O.B. at the Stahl Theatre, Oundle.
The author, who lives in Ireland, is expected to attend the opening night.
The play is set in 1914 in a room at The Admiralty Old Building in London with a disparate group of naval officers, clerics, actors, bankers and society women working together to crack enemy codes.
Their job is to stay one cipher ahead of the game, to defend Royal Navy convoys and, if possible, to bring America into the war.
At the heart of the group is Captain 'Blinker' Hall whose methods are disapproved of but who is determined to win.
Room 40 O.B. holds the keys to victory or defeat in Europe and the play brings a pivotal period of history to life through a medley of eccentric naval personnel and chancy politicians.
