MARY Lamont has become the first woman to complete a course on solar hot water systems at the Worcester Bosch Renewable energy centre.
Mrs Lamont, partner in Lamont Plumbing Services of Essendine, took the course with her husband and business partner Trevor. Their firm can now give customers comprehensive advice on solar heating systems.
The course also qualifies Lamont Plumbing Se
rvices to install solar heating systems to Government requirements.
Mrs Lamont, pictured, said: "With rising energy costs it is essential that we look to sustainable energy to help offset the costs to the householder. Solar panels are an effective and environmentally friendly way of helping our clients to meet those costs while reducing their carbon footprint."
Solar roof panels need to be fitted to a southeast or southwest facing roof.
Typical installations for the average householder are likely to cost between £3,000 and £4,500. Householders should consider the long-term benefits of solar hot water heating.
Savings can be averaged out to between 50–70 per cent of hot water costs a year. In the peak summer months as much as 90 per cent of hot water costs can be met by solar hot water heating.
Mr Lamont, a former winner in the Mercury Business Awards, said: "This qualification further confirms our commitment to the environment and to the use of sustainable energy."
