Other energy-saving tips include adjusting your phone's settings so the screen isn't lit up like a fireworks display and making sure the backlight dims after a few seconds of idle time.
Also, turn your phone off when sleeping, watching a film or doing some other activity.
There's little point having it switched on and you can always catch up with your messages afterwards anyway.
Make sure you turn off services when you're not using them, too, and disable sounds you don't need such as keypad tones.
Hopefully, if we all learn to re-use and recycle our mobile phones properly, we can prevent millions of devices ending up in landfill each year and polluting the environment.
