Recently I noticed an Asda articulated lorry coming along Tinwell Road.
On the basis that there is not an Asda store in the town, I noted the lorry's registration number and wrote to the transport director of Asda.

I pointed out that the residents of Stamford had fought long and hard to obtain a lorry ban so as to preserve our ancient buildings, and I requested that the driver concerned be reprimanded and that Asda drivers were reminded of the lorry ban.

Almost by return, I received a telephone call from the fleet manager of Asda, apologising for the lorry driver's transgression.

They had traced the driver concerned who was apparently an agency driver, whose services they assured me they would not be using again.

The transport manager of its Bedford depot was made aware of my concerns.

Can I suggest that other residents of Stamford who see rogue lorries in the town, take similar action, as it is only this way that our lorry ban can be brought to the attention of those who are in position of authority.

Well done Maureen! That's another driver who has lost his job during the present economic situation.
Another poor man who accidentally took the wrong road, a fellow human being who made a simple mistake. Of course Maureen, you are perfect and have never made a mistake, have you?
What will you say to his wife and hungry children?
"I got you the sack because you made a mistake"!

Well done Maureen!
