Published Date: 14 November 2008
Last Friday it was reported that Bourne town councillors will not receive any allowance for 2009 other than travel.
Can I put the record straight in case there is a misconception regarding Stamford town councillors. We do not receive allowances and never have done.

If it was necessary for any councillor to travel for training, which is hardly likely, a 20p mileage allowance could apply.

To carry out our duties, the cost is met from our own pocket and often many hours of our time. We do it for the community, not always to everyone's agreement, but as volunteers we do our best.

I would personally like to see more residents attending our meetings and offer their thoughts and questions at public question time.

JOHN JUDGE
Stamford town councillor,
Brooke Avenue,
Stamford
