Re: Freight plans for Stamford rail station. In last week's article you state "Network Rail spokesman Rachel Blackman said there are no immediate plans to increase the number of freight trains.
She said: "We're looking at increasing capacity in the future but this development is not to increase the amount of freight trains coming through".

This is of course a very misleading statement. Tech-nically the specific changes at Stamford do indeed only allow larger trains rather then more trains.

However, your readers should be aware that the changes are part of a plan to increase the number of freight trains between Ipswich and Nuneaton by 16 a day in each direction.

In a House of Commons written answer about this larger development on May 18 this year, it was stated "… this expenditure is intended to enhance freight capacity on the route but will benefit passenger services as well."

To my mind this poses two questions to which we need answers, namely: What will be the effects in terms of noise for people living and working close to the line? How will our passenger services benefit from this increased capacity?
