Re the article on page 3last week: Act now to stop rogue parkers!
Having looked round the town at the white lines that denote the parking areas, I am of the opinion that most of them do not comply with the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions.

So before any of the regulations are rigorously enforced
, the council should check all areas in the town to make sure that they do comply with the above regulations.

As it stands at the minute, anyone receiving a parking ticket has good grounds for a successful appeal.

Just over three years ago I posed the question: Is this the most useless piece of equipment in Stamford? in relation to the ridiculous signpost in High Street.

Since then it has continued to misdirect visitors to the town – until now! In what appears to be minor burst of common sense, someone at South Kesteven District Council has authorised the removal of the post. Well done.

No more will we see tourists vainly seeking a toilet in the vicinity of Tesco or wandering up Ironmonger Street looking for The Meadows.

Perhaps the person concerned can now turn his or her attention to those signs offering directions to the Steam Brewery Museum and save visitors another fruitless search.

The brewery continues to function but its museum closed many years ago.

Oh, and by the way, the sign on the corner of Water Street indicating the coach and long stay car park is currently directing drivers away from Cattle Market!

Oh, you mean Stamford really has public loos now?
When I visited the other Sunday morning, there weren't any public loos open.

Perhaps the Gateway people put something in your water supply so you don't need to go.
