Public needs tennis courts

Following on from Jane Peckett's letter last week, our town would benefit from some decent, well-maintained tennis courts.
Of the three courts that originally existed on the Recreation Ground, one has now been made into a basketball court and one has no net, leaving one municipal court in total for the whole of the town.

Being able to gain membership to a private clu
b or paying hourly rates at other private courts is not what this is all about.

It's about the people of Stamford being able to access good sports facilities in their local area as and when they wish to do so.

We should all be campaigning for this, if nothing else it's what part of our council tax pays for.

Not providing decent, well-maintained facilities is very bad form indeed.

It is hardly encouraging people to get fit and tackle obesity and other health problems, and it is denying individuals the basic right to enjoyment of the game.

Whatever our individual rank and status we are entitled to sports and leisure facilities of all types, so don't lose out just because the council does not have these on its list of priorities.
