RESIDENTS may be aware that a new group, Bourne Preservation Society, has been formed, with the aim of saving the chapel of rest at Bourne Cemetery.
The society hopes that Bourne Town Council will give it the opportunity to raise funds to restore, and give the building new purpose befitting its history; and the legacy of its association with families from the local area.

Responses to the recen
t town council survey regarding the future of the chapel indicated that 29 people were in favour of forming a charitable group (nine were willing to become trustees).

Due to issues of confidentiality, the town clerk is unable to pass their names to the society and although she has contacted each of the volunteers, there may have been an error in the contact details.

We would therefore be most grateful if those supporters and the 157 other respondents, who wish to see the chapel saved, would contact Jack Slater on 07960 569 358 or e-mail chairman@bournepreservationsociety.co.uk

The support of anyone who has an interest in saving the chapel of rest and preserving local distinctiveness, would also be most welcome.

Bourne Town Council's annual public meeting in the Corn Exchange, on Tuesday at 7.30pm will include discussion of the chapel's future. All are welcome.

JOYCE STEVENSON
Obthorpe Lane,
Thurlby
