RE: Changing the face of plumbing, Mercury Business section, June 13.
The skills of a plumber necessitate a five or six year apprenticeship, which includes a college course during the same time, resulting in comprehensive plumbing qualifications.
I would strongly recommend that anyone in the plumbing profession who is trying to change the image of this industry contact the Charted Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering by calling 01708 472791 or visiting www.iphe.org.uk
The members of this institute are all fully qualified plumbers or associates.
The aim is to perform professionally, competently and responsibly; safeguard the environment and public health and safety; comply with all relevant laws, regulations, standards and codes; broaden, improve and maintain their skills, knowledge and personal qualities; uphold the dignity, standard and reputation of the institute and the plumbing mechanical engineering services industry and abide by this code of professional standards.
