Bourne Festival 2009 Review by Andy Burton
Bourne Festival, held on the Wellhead Park, has returned for a seventh year entertaining the local community with an impressive line up of bands.
Kicking off on Friday with The Real World, locals were greeted with an evening comprised of tight classic rock covers. Following on was yet more old school rock in the form of White Spirit who cocktailed their set list with the old and new. Thrilling the punters with their impressive covers of legendary songs from Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and Thin Lizzy they ensured the weekend started with a 'head' bang.
Saturday saw headliners The League of Mentalmen take to the stage with mohican's and revealing leather outfits alike. Fusing their punk influences with classic rock/pop songs they delivered a fast-paced, energetic performance allowing those gathered in the beer tent to forget the dismal weather outside and perhaps focus on the vast array of real ale and cider on sale inside.
Other acts over the three day festival included the highly acclaimed Bourne Grammar School Soul Band, metal cover band Temallica and all-girl sister outfit The Almaboobies. With a cruel lashing of rain on Sunday mother nature seemed intent on putting a downer on the weekend – Whole Lotta DC proved otherwise closing the festival on an AC/DC high note. The festival also played host to a range of fun fair rides and activities to ensure the weekend was a hit with all the family.
