BANDS are gearing up to battle for your vote and the chance to perform on stage at this year’s Riverside Festival.

The festival returns in July after a year away and the Mercury has again teamed up with the organisers for the Road to Riverside competition.

Bands and singers of any genres can send in a profile and web links to their music which we will then feature in the newspaper and our website.

Entries will be accepted until Wednesday, February 29 and voting will open on Friday, March 2.

The band or artist with the most votes at the end of the competition will win a slot on one of the three stages at this year’s festival, which will take place on The Meadows on Saturday, July 7.

Jenny Collins, one of the Riverside Festival directors, hopes to see plenty of entries.

She said: “Any genre of music is accepted and we have three stages so the stage the act appears on depends on who wins.

“Previous winners have all said how beneficial taking part has been.”

The Road to Riverside has been held four times. Previous winners include The Brays, Prophecy True, White Clouds and Gunfire and Amicus.

The festival was cancelled last year after a dispute between organisers the Riverside Association of Music and Arts and Stamford Town Council, which is responsible for The Meadows. However, this has now been resolved.

For the first time tickets will be required to get in to the festival. A maximum of 15,000 will be available either in advance or on the door.

Mrs Collins added: “We are really looking forward to the festival this year. It is back after having missed a year and we are really keen that it goes well.

“We are not sure how the changes are going to pan out but we have had some really positive responses.”

Mercury editor Eileen Green said: “The Road to Riverside competition has been very successful before and I hope to see plenty of entries once again.”

To enter the Road to Riverside competition send in a short profile and photo of your band together with an online link to your music and contact details to smeditor@stamfordmercury.co.uk. Once all the entries are in people will be able to vote for a winner.
