HMS Pinafore steams into town

IT'S FULL steam and fun ahead for Stamford next week as the town's Gilbert & Sullivan Players present HMS Pinafore.

This flag-waving, tub-thumping, proud to be part of the British Empire, pre-politically correct production is full of laughs and some great singalong songs. It is one of Gilbert & Sullivan's earliest efforts and reflects a time when Britannia really did rule the waves.

The story revolves around humble sailor Ralph (Adam Bishop) who is in love with Josephine (Joanna Hingley). But, of course, there are big complications, in the form of the Captain (Jim Buxton), Sir Joseph Porter (Andrew Lee), Hebe (Alison Rentowl), Buttercup (Margaret Wainwright) and Dick Deadeye (Jim Inwood).

Performances are from Tuesday to Saturday at the Corn Exchange Theatre where extensive renovation work has been taking place.

Alex Moores is director with Tim Ochala-Greenough as musical director.Tickets 7-9 from Stamford Arts Centre – 01780 763203.
