Oliver Cromwell's House, Ely

Where: 29 St Mary's Street. Ely, Cambridgeshire CB7 4HF

What: Oliver Cromwell was born in 1599. Cromwell's family moved to Ely in 1636 and remained for 10 years. Today his home can be visited and you can experience what domestic life would have been like in the 17th century in a variety of recreated period rooms as well as exhibitions detailing the Civil War and Cromwell's connection with fen life. See the kitchen, study, and the haunted bedroom. Guided tours and group visits by arrangement. The house is also a tourist information centre with gift shop.

When: Open daily until October 10am to 5.30pm

How much: 3.95 adults; 2.70 children; 3.45 concessions. 11 family ticket. No dogs except guide dogs.
