Relive VE day in style

THE BULWICK Belles are inviting you to turn the clock back to 1945 and celebrate VE day in style.

A traditional street party is being held in the village next Saturday May 10 from noon-6pm.

There will be a hog roast, an outside bar selling traditional ale, Weldon choir String of Pearls, big band music from The Red Hot Chillis and DJ David playing music from the 1940s.

Time-honoured games such as hoopla, hook a duck, a coconut shy and sponge stocks will be there as well as stalls, selling everything from lemonade and cakes to toffee apples and boiled sweets. There will also be stalls from the Royal British Legion, the Women's Institute and Bulwick Village Stores.

Teas will be served on the village green and there will be an auction and tombola. Sir Winston Churchill's speeches will be played and an exhibition of photographs and war stories from local residents will be held.

A Forties fancy dress competition will award prizes to the best adult and the best child and there will be aprize for the best decorated house. A green goddess and various vintage military vehicles will be on display.

Admission will be 1.
