A FLY fishing day for youngsters has been boosted by a £3,250 donation.

The Environment Agency has given the money to Rutland Water Fly Fishers for the second ever Rutland Youth Fly Fishing Day on July 22.

The donation will help cover tackle costs on the day.

Last year’s event gave 15 young people aged 10 to 17 the chance to try out a new sport and learn about fly fishing. But this year organisers want to fill 130 places.

Rutland Water Fly Fishers member Jeremy Ball said: “Last year was fantastic but we want to build on that and make it bigger and better.

“We want to give youngsters the opportunity to try something different. The event will also help promote fly fishing as well.”

The day is based at the Fishing Lodge at Normanton and will involve casting tuition, tying knots and leaders, fly tying and fishing advice.

Environment Agency spokesman Hugh Bunker said: “I am thrilled the club has asked for our support and that we are able to contribute to the largest youth fly fishing day ever. This event promises to be a fantastic day for all involved.”

Places cost £15. To book visit www.rutlandwaterflyfishers.co.uk
