Stately home’s TV role leads to spike in interest
Interest in a stately home has shot up after it appeared in a historical TV series.
Burghley House was featured in ITV’s Great Houses programme on Tuesday last week.
The show, presented by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, focused on the history of the Elizabethan house and the people that have served there over the years.
Thanks to its starring role, the house has seen a spike in visitor interest since the programme aired.
House director Miranda Rock said: “We were thrilled to be involved with the programme and it has certainly caused a stir.
“We saw a rise in visitors to our website and we had some lovely comments on our Twitter and Facebook pages.”
The house is closed for the winter but will open for the 2013 season on March 16.
Among the highlights lined up for the new season are a brand new outdoor summer film festival, an expanded Olympic corridor exhibition featuring Lord Sebastian Coe’s 2012 Olympic torch and new spooky tours.
The house will also host Rat Race, the world’s biggest assault course, on May 11 and 12.
