Snowdrops in abundance across area
SWATHES of snowdrops are on show across our area this month.
The gardens at Deene Park will open for the next two Sundays so that visitors can admire its snowdrops spread across several acres.
Head gardener Andrew Jones and his team have been working hard in recent years to build up the spectacular display on offer. Varieties include the Pusey Green Tip with its bold green markings on the outer petals and the Blewbury Tart which resembles a Victorian ballgown.
The formal gardens close to the house boast a selection of winter flowering shrubs such as the richly scented viburnums, winter honeysuckle and hellebores. There is also extensive parterre of clipped box and hornbeam with yew topiary designed by David Hicks.
Snowdrops and hot and cold food will be on sale and the gift shop will also be open.

This year’s Snowdrop Spectacular can be seen on the woodland walk behind Launde Abbey.
The Elizabethan/Jacobean Retreat House near East Norton will be open from 2pm-4pm every day from Monday until Sunday, March 18 allowing visitors the opportunity to stroll through the gardens and wander amongst the magnificent display of snowdrops. Refreshments will be available in the refurbished dining room and the shop will be open for locally produced jams, honey and other gifts.
Admission is £5, including tea, scone and jam. A family ticket (two adults and two children under 12) is £15. Children under three are admitted free. For more information call 01572 717254 or visit www.launde.org.uk
