VISITORS to Nene Valley Railway this weekend will see Thomas collecting and dropping off the mail while on the move.
This practice was last used on the national British Rail system in 1971.
Children and adults can join Thomas’ special mail train at Wansford and help Postie Pete to sort the letters as the train travels to Yarwell station. On arrival, passengers will be escorted along the new footpath towards Yarwell Tunnel to see the mail train dropping and collecting the pouches at speed. Thomas makes three passes of the apparatus, giving everyone watching a good chance to take everything in before the return journey to Wansford.
Departure times are 11am, 1pm and 3pm on Saturday and Sunday. Each event lasts about one hour and children will receive a postie pack, including a stamped, sorted letter and badge to take home. Booking is recommended. Contact 01780 784444 or visit www.nvr.org.uk
