POLICE investigating the death of a baby girl whose body was found at a waste recycling plant have switched their focus to the West Midlands.
The body was found at a recycling plant in Fengate, Peterborough, which handles waste from across Lincolnshire including the Bourne and Deepings area.

The horrific discovery was made by a worker at the plant, in Fengate, Peterborough, at about 7.30am yesterday.

The investigation's move to the West Midlands comes after scenes of crime officers spent much of yesterday sifting through the waste in which the baby was found.

Today, West Mercia Police, based in Worcestershire took over investigating the case and detectives are following up a number of leads in the area. Waste from its area is also sent to the plant.

Police appealed for the mother of the baby to get in touch with officers or medical professionals over concerns about her mental and physical health.

Officers said a post-mortem examination had proved "inconclusive" and that the infant's exact age is still unknown.

A spokesman for Peterborough City Council, which runs the centre, said the materials recycling facility has now reopened.
