Bomber makes emergency landing at base

FIRE engines raced to RAF Cottesmore yesterday afternoon after a suspected fire onboard a Vulcan bomber.
The restored bomber had been making a test flight from Bruntingthorpe airfield in Leicestershire to RAF Cottesmore where a series of tests were due to be carried out.
After the plane took off a warning light indicated the aircraft was on fire and the crew declared an emergency.
Fire engines and rescue vehicles from as far as Wigston and Lutterworth and including Uppingham and Oakham were called to the scene.
The plane landed safely about 4.20pm. It was discovered there was a fault in the system and no fire on board.
