The Rotary Club of Stamford visited Malcolm Sargent Primary School in Empingham Road, Stamford, last week to collect two car loads worth of books for its appeal.
The club joined forces with other Rotary clubs from across the world to help those af
fected by the Boxing Day tsunami in Sri Lanka and says help is still needed.
It is currently sending children's books and GCSE course books to help supply schools and has previously provided desks and other supplies and funding to refurbish or rebuild schools.
Appeal organiser Tony Wakefield, 75, of Little Casterton Road, Stamford, said: "Malcolm Sargent has generously supported the appeal in the past and we are delighted it has done so again."
Business manager at Malcolm Sargent Liz Town said the pupils were delighted to help.
She said: "We have collected books in the past and we have a close involvement with the Rotary Club.
"We had some curriculum and fictional books in school that were no longer needed and we also asked parents through our newsletter for them to bring in any books. It is such a good cause. Our children like to help needy children."
The donation from Malcolm Sargent Primary School follows a donation by Stamford Queen Eleanor School of about three quarters of a ton of books.
The club has already sent about 10 tons of books following appeals in 2008 and 2009, which included donations by Mercury readers.
The Mercury is supporting the appeal by collecting books at our office in Sheep Market, Stamford, and at The Local in West Street, Bourne.
