UPPINGHAM'S green fingered gardeners were out in force to show off their bulbs and blooms at the town's annual flower and produce show.
The sun shone on Sunday's event as the village's Alan Titchmarsh wannabes brought along their crunchy carrots and prized petulias for the judges to closely scrutinise.
The Leicester Road playing field was full of various veggie growers and flower fans along with four-legged friends who barked it out for a title in the Uppingham fun dog show.
Committee chairman Jan Peters said: "The show went fantastically well and we were extremely lucky with the weather. We seemed to have record numbers of people turn up and there was a lovely atmosphere."
The day also included a scarecrow competition, stalls and entertainment by Rutland Morris Men and Gretton Silver band. Bouncy castles were packed with excited children and Wolly the Clown kept the crowds entertained.
The event was reinstated 13 years ago after a long break and has maintained its reputation as a firm family favourite this year.
Winners from flower and produce section: Matthews Rose Cup – Ray Ingram; Noakes Rose Cup – Ray Ingram; Uppingham Flower Show Cup – Ray Ingram; Uppingham Home Produce Association Cup – Roy Hatherway; Uppingham Flower Arranging Cup – M Sanderson; Uppingham Container Plants Rose Bowl – Mrs AD Walker; Garden Hotel Cup – Mrs D Pugh; Falcon Hotel Cup – Paul Dyas; Uppingham Flower Show Cup – Ray Ingram; Uppingham Flower Show Open Section Cup – Enid Clinton; GB Generator Cup – Ray Ingram.
Winners of the children's section: Under 8 years old – Toby Oak– Draper, aged two (with a brilliant painted face!); 8 - 15 – Lucy Wade; Wooden Spoon – Charlie Mason.
A scarecrow competition held for the first time this year was won by the McLoughlin family, Izzy, Samuel, Alistair with "a family of scarecrows who went to the seaside for the day!"
