A GRANDMOTHER has spoken of the heartache caused to her family by the horrific injuries suffered by her grandson in a senseless attack.
The 18-year-old has three metal plates in his face after his eye socket, temple and cheek were shattered in an attack from behind by cowardly thugs in Stamford.
His grandmother says these terrible injuries have not just hurt the teenager but also hi
s parents, his brother and two sisters.
She sent this message to her grandson's attackers: "You have not just hurt my grandson, you have hurt the whole family. His brother, sisters and parents are all suffering.
"What broke my heart was the shock on the faces of his brother and two sisters when they saw him with the staples in his head.
"It was also heartbreaking as a grandmother to see him in that state.
"It could have been a fatal blow."
Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack on the teenager, who was walking home from Quayhole Kate's nightclub when he was punched in the face in St Mary's Hill, just after 2am on April 20.
The teenager went to Peterborough District Hospital casualty department the following day and was referred to see a surgeon on April 22.
Surgeons operated on the youngster two days later when they spent four hours repairing the damage.
He needed 89 staples and has a large scar over the top of his head running from ear to ear.
The teenager is making a good recovery and returned to the hospital yesterday to have the staples removed.
His grandmother has thanked medical staff.
He is off sick from his full-time job as a plumber and was due to take exams at Grantham College shortly but these have been postponed during his recovery.
His grandmother is supporting a police appeal for witnesses.
She said: "I beg anyone out there to please come forward if you know anything to please help because we don't want this to happen again."
Police revealed details of the attack this week.
Det Con Chris Money, of Stamford CID, is running the investigation.
He said: "We don't want this sort of anti-social behaviour, people should be able to enjoy an evening out without fear of violence directed towards them and we are looking for witnesses to the attack."
Anyone with information is asked to call 01780 752222, quoting incident number 146 of April 20.
