PEOPLE had to be turned away from the first live event at Rutland County Museum on Saturday because it was a sellout.
Organisers were overwhelmed by the response from the 200-strong audience who turned out to watch the Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra and Tony Jacobs perform.

The show took place in the main hall at Rutland County Museum in Oakham following a champagne reception.

It was the first in a trial of six events to take place over the summer to help boost tourism in the county and provide more entertainment for residents.

Peter Jones (Con), county councillor responsible for tourism, said: “The opening night surpassed all of our expectations. To sell out was a remarkable achievement and I think everybody who did get in had a wonderful time.

“I was particularly pleased with the number of people who said they were planning a return visit to spend time in the museum. Some had never set foot in the building before despite living only 10 minutes away.”

The second event in the Live@The Museum series will be a young musicians’ showcase on Saturday, June 7.
