PREPARATIONS are well underway for a three day history festival in Stamford with the appointment of a project manager.
Stamford Chamber of Trade and Commerce and Stamford Town Partnership have teamed up to run the Festival of History, which will run on The Meadows in Stamford from Friday, October 1 to Sunday October, 3.
The activities on the first day will focus o
n school's participating while the second and third days, Saturday and Sunday, The Meadows will be open for the public to enjoy the activities, which will include mock-battle skirmishes by Civil Way re-enactment groups.
Chamber president Tim Lee is the project's director, while Robina Hill, the former head of performing arts at New College Stamford, has been named project manager.
Mr Lee said: "We are really pleased to have Robina on board helping us out as she has a lot of background in this area."
Miss Hill added: "This is just the sort of thing that appeals to me and matches up with my love of all things theatrical and artistic."
As well as stalls on The Meadows, there will also be a living history village where skills will be demonstrated by actors in historical dress.
The festival is costing about £20,000 to fund. Lincolnshire County Council has given a grant of £10,000 towards the project funding while the chamber and the partnership will fund the rest.
Mr Lee said: "I think it will be a fantastic weekend for the town and I would hope it would bring people in from across the area. We are expecting between 3,000 and 5,000 people across the weekend.
"Stamford is a very historical town and this will be about history throughout the ages.
"We hope the weather will hold out for us. We chose to hold it in October because we wanted to get the schools involved, which was a big part of us getting the county council grant.
"As well as the things happening on The Meadows, there will be a big parade through town. It will be something everyone can get involved in."
Mr Lee said if the event was successful, an annual event would be considered.
