A STUDENT is calling for the police to set an example after photographing a police car parked in a disabled space.
Police were called out to the Curry's store in Ryhall Road, Stamford, after a charity box was stolen on September 24.
Former store worker Tristan Vert, 18, of Fenton Close, Carlby, said customers complained to him about police using the disabled par
king bay when there were empty spaces next to it.
Mr Vert, who is studying politics and international relations at Hull University said: "I think they should set an example for others.
"In an emergency it is a different matter but I don't think they should be parking in a disabled bay when other bays are free, there is no need to do that."
Lincolnshire police spokesman James Newall said Insp Stewart Gary would investigate and reiterate advice on parking to officers.
Mr Newall said: "It is clear that a police car has been parked in a disabled spot, which is far from ideal. What is not clear is whether at the time of parking, there were any other free spaces available.
"In the execution of their duty, in response to an emergency call, officers are exempt from certain parking regulations.
"We hope the public will understand that in order to do their job effectively and efficiently and in the interests of public safety, it is not practical for them to spend an excessive amount of time looking for a spot or parking some distance away from the incident.
"Having said this, officers are always advised to avoid disabled spots if at all possible, especially in non-emergency situations."
