PUPILS at Stamford High School have handed over a cheque for £500 to an African water project.
Adam Chataway, who runs Vicky's Water Project, came to the school to collect the cheque, which was raised through cake sales and a rag day where pupils paid for the privilege of wearing their own clothes.
Sisters Rachel, 15, and Charlotte Ekins, 12, of Uffington started the fundraising in school, after hearing about the project which aims to provide safe drinking water in Lera Town, Ethopia.
Adam started the project after his fiancee Vicky, who wrote her university dissertation on the subject of safe drinking water, died in a road accident in 2006. He gave a presentation to the school on the charity.
Dominique Evans, a teacher at the school, said: "We were all very touched by Adam Chataway's words in assembly and we are delighted to be able to support such a deserving cause as Vicky's Water project."
