MORE than 5,000 people enjoyed a family fun day in the grounds of Grimsthorpe Castle on bank holiday Monday.
Events included a 10km run and a 3km fun run organised by Bourne Town Harriers, a classic car display, lots of stalls, a falconry display and a sponsored horse ride which attracted 99 entrants.

The event has raised about £10,000 for St John Ambulance's Lincolnshire division thanks to admission fees. The figure includes £1,800 raised by a sponsored horse ride which attracted 99 entrants.

Visitors were able to enjoy a Battle of Britain Memorial Flypast, as well as a falconry display and a 'Drakes of Hazard' display which saw ducks being rounded up by sheepdogs.

John Young, one of the organisers and a St John Ambulance fundraiser, said: "The day went very well and we have certainly done as well as we would expect. We had about 5,000 people come and they all had a really good time.

"The runs were both very popular and we had a good turnout.

"We were very pleased with how the day went. There were lots of people sitting in the grounds having a picnic and no-one was in a rush to leave."

St John is planning t use the money raised towards buying two new ambulances.

Mr Young also thanked the race sponsors, Bakkavor Bourne Salads, Ocean
Spray and Bourne-based Warners Midlands.

The 10km run was one of the biggest the day has ever seen with about 400 competitors taking part.

Sam Hunt, 15, from the Werrington Joggers group crossed the fun run line first in 10mins, 37 seconds. More than 150 entered.

Bourne Town Harrier Peter Honniball said the fun run was a big success. He said: "It went very well. There were some very fast small children near the front and there was fierce competition among the top three.
"It was a very good race and a very successful event all-in-all."
