YOUNGSTERS are being invited to do their bit for a children's cancer charity by taking part in a scooter race.
The Scootathon is an popular annual event for St Gilbert's School in Stamford but this year is having a bit of a make-over.
Members of the Joint Schools Council, which is made up of pupils from the town's primary and secondary schools, are in char
ge of organising the event and are planning to make it a family day.
The race is also having a bit of a change with youngsters being asked to bike, scoot and walk around a course at the Queen Eleanor Technology College, in Green Lane, Stamford, on Saturday, May 15.
Youngsters are also hoping to raise as much money as possible for the Stamford-based charity, Anna's Hope, which helps children with brain tumours.
Carole Hughes and her husband Rob, of Pilsgate, Stamford, set up the charity in memory of their daughter Anna, who lost her battle against a brain tumour aged just three in May 2006.
Two of the organisers Chrystelle Hadebe, 15, of St George's Road, Wittering, and Trent Cartwright, 15, of Lindsey Road, Stamford, are urging people to take part.
Chrystelle said: "We want it to be bigger than before and we want more children to come. Before it was just one school but now we want to get everyone involved."
Trent said: "We want it to be something for kids to do in the half-term."
