Plans are well under way for local celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the opening of the National Health Service.
The Peterborough and Stamford NHS Foundation Trust is seeking people who have a special memory associated with Stamford Hospital, or Peterborough District Hospital, to take part in special birthday events in July.

As part of the anniversary celebr
ations, open days are to be held at Stamford Hospital on July 5 and at Peterborough District Hospital on July 6, and the trust would like people who share a birthday with the NHS (July 5, 1948) or those with special memories of the hospital to get in touch.

The trust would also like to hear from people who remember working at Stamford Hospital 50 or 60 years ago and from people who worked at the Peterborough District Hospital when it first opened in the late 1960s or at the Peterborough Memorial Hospital before that.

Both open days will feature behind-the-scenes tours of clinical and support area, information and display stands and activities aimed at health promotion and healthy living.

There will also be the opportunity to contribute to a special Hospital History publication about Stamford and Peterborough hospitals.

The publication, due out in 2010, will include personal memories of the hospitals from the people of Stamford and Peterborough as well as aspects of both hospitals’ fascinating histories.

Anyone wishing to write in with memories should send them to Katy Lamb, Communications Department, Edith Cavell Hospital, Peterborough, PE3 9GZ, including photos if possible. All photos will be returned after publication.
