THOUSANDS of women donned silly costumes to run around a stately park to raise money for a cancer charity.
A total of 3,722 runners took part in the Race For Life event hosted by Stamford's Burghley House on Sunday.
The women-only event was one of hundreds across the country organised by Cancer Research UK to support its important work.
Competitors ran, jogged or walked around a 5km course plotted out around the Burghley estate, which is hoped to meet its target of £242,000.
The first runner crossed the finish line in 19 minutes while the last competitor came in after an hour and a half.
Organiser Kate Francklow said some runners wore big wigs or dressed up to take part and that two women completed the event as a three-legged race.
Kate, of Winchester Road, Northampton, said: "It was brilliant and the atmosphere was amazing.
"It was really emotional as people took part to remember or celebrate someone whose had cancer.
"It was a really emotional day but great fun."
Kate is now appealing to competitors to get their sponsorship money back to the charity as soon as possible.
