TRIBUTES have been paid to Oakham town councillor Elizabeth Walker who was found dead at her home on Saturday.
Mrs Walker, who lived at Main Road, Barleythorpe, has been a member of the council since May 2007 and was also clerk to Barleythorpe Parish Meeting.

Police were called to her home at 4.45pm following a discovery of a body. A file is being prepared for the coroner. A police spokesman said the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Oakham mayor Mark Woodcock said: "It is a tragedy, it is very sad and we are all shocked by it. Liz did a lot of work for the town, she gave up a lot of free time to work as a councillor.

"She was also clerk to Barleythorpe Parish Meeting and a lot of her time was spent in one way or another working for the local area. She will be sadly missed."

Fellow town councillor and former mayor Jim Harrison said: "She was a lovely woman and she is going to be sadly missed in the town and by Oakham Town Council. Our sympathy goes out to her family."
