VISITORS soaked up the sun at Greetham's most successful village fete in years on Saturday.
A fantastic flying display of model aircraft and helicopter kicked off the eventful day that included archery, children's games, and stalls selling homemade cakes and jams and an auction of promises.
The fete was officially opened by Kate and Ian Kelham, former owners of the village shop, and the fun continued until 10.30pm when the live music in the community hall ended.
Drivers travelling through Greetham thorughout the weekend saw a policeman operating what looked like a speed gun.
In fact it was a scarecrow, with a motorised arm, holding a hair dryer.
There were 28 scarecrows dotted around the community, sitting in homemade tanks, standing guard outside The Wheatsheaf pub or trying to climb into upstairs windows.
There was a stunning golden eagle named Tarin on the arm of village resident Simon Tebbutt, of Falconry Services of Greetham, and a children's disco in the community centre was followed by live music from Wysiwyg – What you see is what you get.
They are still counting, but so far more than £2,200 has been raised for St Mary's Church for roof repairs.
Greetham Community Centre chairman Don McGarrigle said: "Thanks to Sylvia Bland and the organising committee for a job well done. There were hundreds of people, the weather was brilliant and it was a very good day.
"It was the best supported fete for many a year with a good atmosphere, a good crowd and good fun."
