TWO villages in our area are set to fight it out with others from across Lincolnshire in an effort to clinch the title of Best Kept Village.
Greatford has made it through to the semi-finals of Class 1 of the annual competition, which is organised by Community Lincs in partnership with the Lincolnshire branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England. Class 1 is for villages with a populati
on of between 100 and 500.
Colsterworth has made it through to the Class 2 category, which is for villages with a population of between 501 and 2,000.
The villages will battle it out this month in an effort to get to the final round in August.
Teresa Palmer, of Community Lincs, said: "There are several village that have gone through to the second round this year that have never been placed before in the competition, but there are also some that have yet again been successful, showing that communities continue to work together for a better environment."
SCHOOLCHILDREN came together for a packed sports day on Tuesday featuring former Olympic star Dame Kelly Holmes.
South West Lincolnshire School Games saw youngsters taking part in a host of activities, including relay races, bowling and kicking challenges, watched by Dame Kelly and fellow Olympic gold medalist Duncan Goodhew.
The event took place at South Kesteven sports stadium in Grantham.
Among those taking part were Queen Eleanor Technology College, Stamford, and Charles Reed High School, Corby Glen, and many primary schools.
