Staff at Hambleton Hall have been rubbing shoulders with the stars after US comedian Joan Rivers was left so impressed with her stay at the hotel she invited them backstage at her concert.
The TV personality also tweeted a photo of herself with hotel staff at her show on Wednesday night to more than 1.3 million followers, along with the words: “The amazing group from @Hambleton_Hall! Thank you for making our stay simply perfect. I can’t wait to come back!”
She also tweeted her friend, American actress Whoopi Goldberg about the hotel, writing: “You have to come visit Hambleton Hall in Rutland. Simply gorgeous, roaring fires, country rooms, wonderful food. Perfect!”
Joan stayed at the hotel for tea and lunch while performing her Now Or Never show in Nottingham and Birmingham. During her stay she also tweeted photos of the views from her room and a picture of her having afternoon tea.
Hambleton Hall owner Tim Hart described Joan as the “most charming guest”.
He said: “She was really appreciative of her time with us and seemed to really enjoy her stay.
“I really hope she does another tour and comes back here.
“We would all love to see her again.”
She gave Mr Hart and five restaurant staff, including director Graeme Mattheson, tickets to her stand-up show on Wednesday night in Nottingham.
Mr Hart was very impressed with her performance and was amazed at her energy for a 79-year-old.
He added: “It was great fun going back stage with her and we really enjoyed the show.
“The energy and fitness she has on stage for a 79 year old is a remarkable achievement.
“She has the greatest sense of humour about herself and she really is great fun.”
