SHOPPERS were joined by thousands of flying ants as they browsed High Street stores.
The insects took to the air around Stamford town centre on Thursday as part of their annual mating ritual.
Some shoppers complained of bites but the ants were little more than a nuisance as customers filled coffee shops and outdoor seating areas.
The ants spend a few days mating every summer, after which the females try to find somewhere to start a new colony. The males die shortly afterwards.
