A railway enthusiast has delved into the dark history of the Holocaust in his latest book.

Robin Jones, 56, of Baston, has written a book called Railways and the Holocaust: The Trains that Shamed the World.

In his new book, Heritage Railway editor Mr Jones, examines the background to the Holocaust and the central role that railways played in Hitler’s genocide.

Mr Jones said: “I tried to work out how this brilliant invention the steam railway, which Britain gave to the world, came to be distorted to be used in the most hideous crime in human history.

“The holocaust is still very relevant, it has happened within the life span of people still living now and needs to be remembered.”

The book also looks at how the Nazi Party broke the steam speed record in 1936 and Hitler’s plan to build a railway across the Sahara.

Railways and the Holocaust is now available from WH Smith for £6.99, or at www.heritagerailway.co.uk or telephone 01507 529529 to order a copy by post.
