HUNDREDS of balloons have been released for a football club’s latest charity fundraising campaign.

Players from the Stamford Daniels under 12s team sold 407 balloons which were released from the PK Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The event has raised £400 which will be split between The Afghanistan Soldiers Trust, Marie Curie Cancer Care and training opportunities for the team.

The event was organised by parents Gillian Walker and Claire Brewis and sponsored by Connells estate agents.

Prizes of High Street vouchers will be awarded to the sponsors of the balloon which travels the furthest and the one which was found first.

One has already been picked up in Germany.

Club spokesman Guy Walton said: “Special thanks go to the organisers Gillian Walker and Claire Brewis who worked tirelessly to set up the event and manage its success.”
