Beer Festival will be Deepings Rugby Club’s biggest ever

Organisers of a rugby club beer festival hope this summer’s event will be the biggest and best yet in its 11 year history.

Deepings Beer Festival will be held at the Deepings Rugby Club ground in Linchfield Road, Deeping St James, on July 26 and 27.

The popular event has grown each year since it first began and club officials hope to see plenty of people visit the festival with its beers and family entertainment.

Festival co-ordinator and rugby club manager Lee Coupland said:“This year, as always, the Deepings Beer Festival won’t disappoint.

“With live music throughout the weekend, family fun and carefully sourced ales, ciders and wines, we look forward to welcoming visitors from near and far.

“We are delighted to be hosting a minis and junior rugby camp the week after the event, with coaches from New Zealand and Australia, so it’s truly international this year as we introduce them to the traditions and delights of our annual beer festival and our local community.”

The first Deepings Beer Festival was held in September 2003 and was meant to be a bit of fun for rugby club members.

It took place inside the clubhouse with half a dozen barrels of beer. But such a great weekend was had by all that it was decided to run the event again the following year.

Since then the club has increased the size of the festival year on year. This year’s event will feature more than 60 real ales, traditional scrumpy ciders, country wines and speciality lagers.

There will be plenty for the whole family with live music and a funfair for youngsters.

And the club will also be raising money for a good cause.

Lee added: “This event is key for the club each year and alongside all the hard work and fun, we raise funds for a chosen charity each year.

“This year our club members have voted to support Rugby For Heroes, a charity which raises funds to help those who have suffered traumatic times, to get back into training and find new careers.”

The free festival will take place from 3pm on July 26 and midday at July 27.
