THE High Sheriff of Rutland has had a taste of what life is like for refuse collectors.
Peter Lawson and his wife Anne Lawson met the Cory Environmental crews at 7am at Ashwell station, and set off on bin collecting rounds in Braunston, Ridlington, Preston, Wing, Pilton, Glaston, Seaton, Wardley and Belton.
One highlight of the tour was a visit to the vast new recycling centre close to the M1 at Leicester Forest East which is the destination for almost all Rutland’s grey bin recyclable waste.
Mr Lawson said: “It’s an amazing and sobering experience to spend a whole day with Cory and the bin collectors.
“How hard we all worked! How far we walked! Never should any of us underestimate the long hours it takes to remove all our waste – something we should never take for granted.
“It was cheering to see how many people genuinely welcomed the collectors.”
